Course Registration

As a student, you will register for courses through Student Self-Service. Student Self-Service is the portal where students can:

  • Check registration eligibility
  • Add/drop classes
  • View student billing/account information
  • Update personal information
  • View academic history
  • Order transcripts
  • Add name to the graduation list

How to Access Student Self-Service

  1. Visit Student Self-Service and click on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  2. Use your Net ID and password to login
  3. For first time logins, verify your personal information (such as contact information). Always remember to keep this information up-to-date to ensure proper delivery of important documents.

Course Offerings

The course offering list below contains a list of accounting and non-accounting courses for the upcoming semester(s) as well as the Course Registration Number (CRN) you will need to use when registering for your course(s). When you register for ACCY courses be sure to register for both the DA1 and the DB1 sections. The program team will send you a registration email, with a course offerings list, prior to each registration period.

How to Register for Illinois Courses

        1. Check Your Time Ticket
          Use Student Self-Service to check your registration eligibility. Here you will see your time ticket (shows the time period in which you can register), holds, or other items which may affect your ability to register.
    To check the information in Self-Service:

  • Log in to Student Self-Service
  • Click “Registration & Records” tab at the top of the page
  • Click on “Registration” (left side screen)
  • Click “Registration Eligibility” This page will list:
    • Curriculum – Your degree, college, and major
    • Student Status – If you’re inactive, you will not be permitted to register
    • Your time ticket – The earliest time that you are authorized to register
    • Academic standing – If you are on probation, your registration may be limited
    • Holds on your record that prevent registration
  • Address Any Holds That May Prevent Registration
    Holds that students see in Self-Service which prevent registration may include Transcript holds or Financial holds. If you have holds please do the following:

    • Financial Holds – you must contact Student Financial Services to resolve any financial holds on your record before you can register for courses
    • Please refer to your Notice of Admission to identify what transcripts need to be sent in to have your transcript hold removed. If you have any questions, please contact the program for assistance
  • Register for Illinois Courses
    When your eligibility to register for courses becomes active (noted on your Time Ticket), you may then complete your registration.

    • To Add Courses:
      • Log in to Student Self-Service (use NetID and password)
      • Click “Registration & Records” tab at the top of the page
      • Click on “Registration” (left side screen)
      • Click on “Add/Drop Classes”
      • Read the Registration Agreement and “Agree” (if you want to continue)
      • Select the appropriate term from the drop down menu, click “Submit”
      • In the “Add/Drop Classes” page, scroll down until you see the “Add Classes Worksheet” section
        • Here you will enter the CRN of the course(s) you want to add (CRN will be in the Course Offerings List)
        • Click “Submit Changes”, the course information should auto-populate
        • Do not try to search for the courses. Always use the CRN to add the course.
        • Remember, when adding your Accountancy courses be sure to add both parts of your course. For example, if you add ACCY 501 you should be adding ACCY 501 section DA1 (2 credit hours) and ACCY 501 section DB1 (2 credit hours). Each course you register for should total 4 credit hours.

You will obtain access to your registered course(s) approximately 1 week before the semester officially starts.

Coursera Registration

As long as you have linked your Coursera account with Illinois, you will automatically be enrolled in your non-credit Coursera courses associated with your for-credit Illinois courses approximately one week prior to the start of each eight-week course.

You are welcome to work ahead and being a non-credit Coursera course before the start of the for-credit Illinois portion. For your convenience we have a list of the iMSA Courses and their Coursera Course Components. Please note, if you decide to complete a Coursera non-credit course that is part of an iMSA for-credit course prior to the beginning of the for-credit course you will be able to do so at no additional cost if you sign up for Coursera for Illinois. If you work ahead in a non-credit Coursera course without enrolling in Coursera for Illinois you will be charged an enrollment fee. Your progress, and payment if applicable, is automatically migrated over when you register for the for-credit iMSA degree course.
